We went walking in the Engadine, Switzerland with our children and grandchildren.
It is one of the most magical things you can do! The mountains are covered in wildflowers, the waterfalls are filled with water from springs or from the melting snow.
The weather was perfect and walking through this magic, high world, with all my loved ones was nearly too good to be true ( We missed Birri and Sophie this year!!!)
On one of our walks, at about 2400 meters, we came across ‘Alp Munt’, a little dairy, with only one farmer living there. There are many small high pasture dairies scattered around the Engadine, which take the milk from cows, grazing on these rich summer pastures. At some, you can stop and have a light refreshment from their own produces.
‘Alp Munt’ really caught my eye!
This minuscule dairy offered fresh milk, yogurt, ‘ Alpentrunk’ ( Alpine drink) a mixture of milk, yogurt and wild blueberries and fresh cheese.
The milk was kept cool, sitting in the fountain, fed by a nearby alpine spring
‘The mountain man’, as the children called him, was ladeling the milk straight into a jug
You can tell from the delight on the faces of Griffin, Nick and Samson, how delicious the plain, fresh milk tasted. ‘ The best milk in the world, Nonna’!!!
Near Alp Munt, a little Alpine lake with cotton flowers growing in the shallow, freezing water
Looking from the dairy into Val Fex , where we were staying.
