I used yellow split peas for this recipe.
You can eat this dahl on its own or serve it as an accompaniment .
• 500 gr dried yellow split peas
• wash them in plenty of water, until the water runs clear
• soak them in water for about 1 hour
• boil the peas in plenty of water until just tender ( about 15 minutes)
• when they are cooked, drain them
• 1 Spanish onion, chopped
• 3 cloves of garlic, crushed
• fresh ginger grated ( about 3 cm piece)
• 1 red chilli, cut little incisions into it
• 2 teaspoons of ground cumin
• 2 teaspoons of ground turmeric
• 2 teaspoons of garamassala
• 1 1/2 teaspoons ground coriander
• 4-5 tablespoons olive oil
• salt and pepper to taste
• in a saucepan gently fry all the above ingredients for about 10-15 minutes
• stirring from time to time
• mix in the drained split peas
• taste for salt
• chop a bunch of fresh coriander and mix that through
• put in a serving bowl
